What Kind of Visa Do I Need?
Student (F/M) Visas
Students wishing to continue their academic studies in the U.S. will need a student visa. If you are going to the U.S. primarily for tourism, but want to take a short course of study (less than 18 hours per week), you may be able to do so on a visitor visa. You should inquire at the Consulate for more information. If your course of study is more than 18 hours a week, you will need a student visa.
A visa is not a guarantee of entry into the United States; it is simply permission to apply for entry into the United States. The Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection officer at the port of entry allows you to enter the country and decides how long you can stay.
